Health and Safety While Studying Abroad
Rice University places the highest priority on the health, safety and security of all students, here on the Rice campus and while abroad. The Rice Study Abroad Office is committed to maximizing student health and safety by continuing to provide information and support during your time away.
Your health and safety during your study abroad experience will depend in large part on the choices you make and precautions that you take prior to, during and following your time overseas. Preparation and personal responsibility are key to a healthy, safe and successful stay abroad. We offer the following key recommendations for your time abroad:
- Review the Health & Safety and Student Responsibilities sections on our website, as well as the information provided at your pre-departure orientation.
- Pay attention to location-specific information provided by your program or host institution upon arrival and throughout the duration of the program.
- Continue to consult the U.S. State Department and the Centers for Disease Control for detailed information, travel precautions, and immunization recommendations for the country where you are studying as well as any countries you may be visiting while abroad.
- Adjust your behavior for the new situations you will be experiencing and take precautions to protect your health and safety.
