Health and Safety While Studying Abroad

Rice University places the highest priority on the health, safety and security of all students, here on the Rice campus and while abroad, so is of course wishing you a very healthy and safe experience now that you have arrived in your host country. The Rice Study Abroad Office is committed to maximizing student health and safety by continuing to provide information and support during your time away.

As was advised during your post-acceptance and pre-departure phase...Your health and safety during your study abroad experience will depend in large part on the choices you make and precautions that you take prior to, during and following your time overseas. Preparation and personal responsibility are key to a healthy, safe and successful stay abroad. Before your departure, you were advised to make sure you were in good health, to consult with your personal physician/s regarding your plans for studying abroad and to learn as much as possible about the health and safety conditions in your host country. Now that you are abroad you can adjust your behavior for the new situations you will be experiencing and take precautions to protect your health and safety.

We encourage you to continue consulting the U.S. State Department and the Centers for Disease Control for detailed information, travel precautions, and immunization recommendations for the country where you are studying as well as any countries you may be visiting while abroad. In addition to the general health & safety information you were given at the pre-departure orientation, specific health and safety information is addressed upon arrival in the host country and throughout the program as needed. Review this information carefully and review all Health & Safety sections and Student Responsibilities on our site.
