Participation in a Rice-approved study abroad program constitutes an important part of a student's academic experience at Rice - not an interlude between semesters at Rice but an integral part of the Rice undergraduate experience. This educational experience abroad is intended to enhance a student’s overall educational endeavor at Rice University and provide opportunities for substantial intellectual and personal growth.
Students should be academically prepared to make the most of their classes and experiences abroad. Preparation may include proficiency in a foreign language, a foundation in the major, or courses relevant to the geographic area or subjects to be studied abroad.
Eligible students work with their academic, transfer credit and study abroad advisors to select an appropriate program and to ensure awarding of academic credit for the work done abroad. Students who have followed all appropriate preparatory steps will continue progressing toward a degree and retain eligibility for Rice support throughout their international experience and upon return.
